Norton running, which free antivirus for download?

I have Norton Internet Security / antivirus since I bought my Computer three years ago. Now my subscription has just presented a couple of weeks ahead, that free software would be my best option? I have Windows XP Home Edition and make a lot of shopping online and internet banking. AVG? Avast? Avira? What is the best and I can download in the quickest and easiest possible? I hope that this work does not seem so daunting on the horizon. I'm very paranoid, I can almost imagine a virus attack inbetween uninstalling Norton and installing new software free. Please help a damsel in distress!
